This has been a great first year for the new management group of the Elmira Pioneers. Last week the team set a new NYCBL Pioneers attendance record and now the Pioneers are proud to announce that the squad has clinched a playoff spot in the 2010 NYCBL playoffs.
"We have been delighted by what has happened on the field.", stated General Manager Pat McKernan. "We got a late start putting the team together but, our coaching staff has a lot of experience and many contacts in the college baseball world. They put together an outstanding group of young men, who have been a treat to watch on the field and a pleasure to work with in the community."
Skipper Dan Shwam is not satisfied. "We still have a lot of work to do. We want to cement the #1 seed in the league. Then, the ultimate goal is to win the NYCBL championship."
There are still three home dates left on the schedule. Tonight is the final Spectacular Saturday of the season and the Pioneers giveaways will include a DVD player, Free Wings for a Year at Buffalo Wild Wings and a weekend vacation in Atlantic City. The Party in the Park Concert Series presents Rusted Thorn.
Tuesday, July 27 is Fan Appreciation Night. The Party in the Park Concert Series concludes with a performance by the Colin Markus Band. Wednesday July 28 is the season finale against the Hornell Dodgers. Games start at 7:05 and there will be more surprise giveaways on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The NYCBL playoffs start on Friday, July 30.
