The Elmira Pioneers entered Wednesday nights contest looking to get back on track after dropping a double header the day before in Webster. The back-to-back losses were the first for Elmira since losing consecutive games on June 10-11th.
Nate Kowal in his sixth start off the year was looking to pull even with Andrew Wall for the team lead in wins with 4. The Power would strike first as they put two runs on the board in the first inning off a double from Sam Ofield.
Elmira had an answer in the second inning with Carlos Lopez reaching base after a single up the middle and then scoring on an RBI single from Brian Erie. Nate Kowal held the Power off the scoreboard until the eighth inning as it was a back and fourth game between the two clubs.
The Pioneers tied the game up in the sixth inning when Carlos Lopez scored on a wild pitch after he reached base with a double. Kowal would exit the game with one out in the eighth inning after allowing the go ahead run to give Niagara a 3-2 lead. Cody Normand came into the game to get the last two outs of the inning.
With two outs and Elmira trailing in the top of the ninth Carlos Lopez dropped a hit into left field scoring Jake Rickenbach and Justin Lamborn giving the Pioneers a 4-3 lead. Elmira plated two more runs in the inning off of wild pitches that put Elmira in front 6-3.
John Colella entered in the bottom of the inning and shut the door once again as he picked up his 11th save of the year.
