The Pioneers headed to Webster for a double header on Tuesday as they entered the game riding a 7 game winning streak. Elmira sent Chad Simendinger to the hill in game one, looking for his 4th win of the season.
This past week Simendinger was named the NYCBL West Division Co-Pitcher of the Week for his efforts from July 12-18th. Simendinger gave up 2 runs early to Webster in the first inning after his offense put a run on the board to start the game.
Elmira would tie things up in the top of the third at 2-2 before taking the lead thanks to an RBI hit off the bat of Carlos Lopez. Webster fired back in the bottom of the inning tying things up once again with Simendinger still on the mound for the Pioneers.
The Pioneers would fall behind in the bottom of the sixth as Matt Francis drove in 3 Yankee runners giving them the 6-3 lead. Simendinger suffered just his second loss of the season as he allowed 6 runs on 8 hits over 6 innings.
Game 2 saw Rob Curran throw for Elmira in his first start of the season. Curran brought an 0-1 record into the game looking to help Elmira earn a split.
Webster would score all of the run support that they needed in the bottom of the first as they plated 3 runs to take an early 3-0 lead. The Pioneer bats were unable to be found in game 2 as they could only put together 3 hits on the night as they scored a run in the fourth inning.
Curran did all he could on the mound keeping Elmira close through 7 innings as he allowed just the 3 runs, giving up 7 hits and striking out 5 Yankee batters. Webster opened up the lead in the bottom of the eighth as they scored 3 more runs to take a 6-1 lead.
