The Pioneers came into Monday night looking to keep ahead of the field in the West Division as Hornell came into town for two games. The second game of the night would see Elmira and Hornell play a full 9 inning game. The Pioneers sent Andrew Wall to the mound looking for his 4th win of the season.

Andrew Wall and the Pioneers would fall behind early as the Dodger put together a 2 run top of the 2nd as Derrick Speaker got a single scoring the runs. Wall would get out of the inning with a fly out to right field.

The Pioneers offense would back him up though in the bottom half of the inning as they put 8 runs on the board. The inning was capped off by a 2 run home run from Carlos Lopez to left field for his first of the year. Hornell Starter Josh Smith would register just 1.2 innings allowing 8 runs on 6 hits and exit the game with his team trailing 8-2.

The Pioneers offense kept on the throttle as they plated single runs in the 4th, 6th and 8th innings with Carlos Lopez picking up his 2nd long ball of the night in the 6th. The run support was plenty for Wall who allowed just 2 scoring innings against Hornell as they picked up a pair of runs in the 2nd and 5th innings.

Wall would almost go the distance in this one but was pulled after the 8th inning handing the ball over to Casey Levens to close things out. Wall finished the night allowing 4 runs on 9 hits through 8 innings also striking out 7 Hornell batters. Casey Levens struck out 2 batters in the ninth to close things out and allow Wall to pick up his 4th win of the season for Elmira.

Elmira pestered Hornell with 15 hits on the night as Corey Keller would finish 4-5 with 2 RBI, Ryan Ferguson and Carlos Lopez both added 3 hits and 3 RBI. The win moves Elmira to 22-10 on the season and they will continue their home stand on Spectacular Saturday, July 24th as the Pioneers will take on the Alfred Thunder when “lucky fan” giveaways include an HDTV, DVD player and the “Allegiant Air weekend vacation” in Orlando.
